Summer Move Scheduling tips and tricks

Summer is here which means the moving industry is at it's busiest. Children are home from school, teachers and professors are off as well, so schedules book up quickly. Here are just some quick tips to help you not miss out on hiring a moving company for your move.

1. Schedule an in-home estimate

Even if you don't know what date you are moving, a free in-home estimate is the most accurate way to get an estimate for your move. Your estimator will come out, take a look at your items and can go through the process and talk about any specific services you may need such as packing or storage. Your estimate does not expire so even if there are changes in your move, you will be able to reschedule or adjust if you need to.

2. Book 4-6 weeks in advance in the Summer

This time frame will give you enough flexibility on dates as well as additional services such as packing or storage. A good rule for you to go by is as soon as you know you are moving, you should be starting to shop around companies and getting estimates. This also gives you time if you wanted to consolidate some items by yard sales, consignment or donation. We have a contact to help you with downsizing as well!

3. Consider scheduling your move on a weekday rather than weekends

There tends to be more availability on the weekdays than on the weekends. I know that this is easier said than done with work, however consider calling in sick (you didn't hear that from me) or getting a family member or a trusted friend to be at the house that day to ensure that everything goes smoothly.

4. Get on a schedule with a mover EVEN if you may not book with that company

This is something that will help you immensely. Most companies don't have you place a deposit to be placed on their schedule. Keep in mind, you do not want to do this with several companies. Only about one or two because you can create confusion for yourself if you book with a few companies and then end up forgetting you did if you go with someone else. Also, if you had to move your date, it is much easier once you are already ON the schedule to do so rather than trying to get on the schedule last minute. These are some tricks to consider for scheduling your move. We want you to have the most stress free move that you can.
