Get Your Move On Scholarship Coming Soon!

Get Your Move On ScholarshipHey all – I guess doing all of this work with the Autism Speaks society has gotten me thinking – what can we do as a company to help others who are not as fortunate, and in what ways can we help them? There are literally hundreds of thousands of societies and foundations for many different types of people, whether it is children suffering from a disorder or disease, to adults to senior citizens having their respective organizations.Anyway, this all got my brain working, and after our recent partnership with ASU, offering an employee discount, it finally clicked. We want to offer a college scholarship! We are still working out the final details, but I wanted to keep everyone posted with what is happening at Get Your Move On on the horizon.A recent article on MSN.com detailed the shift from most colleges rewarding merit rather than need when it comes to financial aid awards. This seems like rewarding the rich and taking from the poor to me. At Get Your Move On, our scholarship will of course have a merit component, but need will also be a huge factor. So why would schools want to give their financial aid budgets to students who could otherwise afford to attend? Sadly, it is so they can compete for the attendance of that student. Schools are pitted against each other to basically ‘buy’ students. That’s why our scholarship will not be associated with any particular school. We looked into that option and quite frankly, the school has too much of a say when it comes to picking the persons awarded. We want to have the final say!We plan to start small and see how this goes. We are hoping for a good response but also a little nervous to get flooded with applications! Let us know if you are interested in helping us go through the applications once they start coming in.Here are the basics of the scholarship, and we will tell you how you can apply as soon as all of the parameters are approved:

  • 1st Generation American
  • 3.5 GPA or higher
  • Write a short essay describing need
  • Can be used at any 2 or 4-year accredited institution
  • Can be put toward tuition or books

Anyway, that’s just a taste of what the scholarship will entail. We are excited to be able to offer such a thing and we can’t wait to announce the final details!
